Background
COX2M set out to develop a comprehensive solution for monitoring fuel levels at remote sites across the United States. Their goal was to create a one-stop service that provided users with a clear, centralized view of fuel levels and tank details. To achieve this, they designed a device capable of monitoring fuel levels and transmitting the data over the internet, making it accessible from virtually anywhere.
Challenge
The challenge was to seamlessly integrate the hardware with a user-friendly platform, enabling users to generate real-time fuel level reports regardless of location.
Key functionalities included twice-daily fuel data updates and instant alerts for critical fuel levels, ensuring timely action. Additionally, the app incorporated predictive analytics to forecast refueling needs, allowing users to optimize delivery planning and improve operational efficiency.
Process
To ensure a user-centered approach, we identified three primary user groups: administrators, technicians, and drivers. To better understand their needs and workflows, we conducted multiple in-person workshops at the client’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
Administrators were responsible for managing the user inventory, which included clients (both companies and individuals), supplier technicians, and installation technicians. Their role was crucial in overseeing the assignments and ensuring the smooth operation of the system.
Technicians handled critical tasks such as tank maintenance for fuel suppliers and device servicing. Their assignments were integral to maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the operation. The process flow was designed to be highly automated, leveraging real-time data from devices installed in the tanks. These devices transmitted key metrics via SIM signals, enabling seamless monitoring and decision-making based on the tanks’ behavior.
